I use my "Chief Architect Home Design" software every week.  When contractors were coming over to give us bids on framing, drywall, electrical, and carpet I was prepared with a to-scale drawing of the final floor plan.  They were always relieved and impressed that I was so well prepared.  This is when I explain that I am a trained interior designer.

Here is the basement floor plan that I made using this software:

My favorite bonus to this software is that you can pop into 3D and "walk around" your new design, creating scenes like this:
