For this years Vancouver Home + Design Show, I was asked to design a 400 sq/ft apartment space. With the influx of smaller condos popping all over the place, this was just the right feature to show people how to live stylishly in a small space. Having never designed such a space, I took it on as a challenge! I wanted to make the space well designed but also chic, stylish and modern. It is easy to put some cabinets up on the wall and furnish the space and call it a day, however I know that multi functionality is key in a small space and wanted to showcase that.

Here is a quick rundown of what I did...

1. A seamless floor from Metropolitan Hardwood Floors Inc through out the open concept plan really helps make a space feel larger. The lighter, beach style wood is on trend and adds a rustic edge to the space.

2. The upper cabinets from in the kitchen were kept along one wall, creating a gorgeous feature with tile on the other. This created an almost a built-in look using pre-fab cabinets from COWRY Cabinets Using a stone and tile mosaic from Julian Tile helped in creating depth and reflecting light. Small, condo sized appliances from Midland Appliance were also used in the space to maximize storage and cabinet space. The small island with the cooktop was a big hit!

3. Multifunctional furniture from Resource Furniture looks modern and streamlined in the space but also serves a dual purpose. The sofa turns into a queen bed as does the dining/office table. These pieces are really unique in that they are so modern and clean lined and convert effortlessly.

4. The bathroom has a stand up shower and carries the same colour scheme to create continuity. The Duravit floating vanity and one piece toilet really help in creating visual space. Chrome Grohe fixtures create a clean and modern line in the shower.

5. Fabulous accessories from CB2 really help to create drama and inject personality into the space.

6. Lighting from Luminoso was kept minimal and clean as to not overwhelm a space.

A BIG thanks to all the suppliers including Moulding and Millwork for coming through at the last minute and of course to Jared at ION Project Ltd for the amazing tile install and Doug at DADO.
